The most popular foods of the Bahamas is of coarse seafood such as Crawfish (local rock lobster) conch, land crabs, and fish such as Grouper, Yellow Tail and Red Snapper. Conch is a very unique dish. Conch is a shell fish like an oyster. Unlike the slimy oyster the meat of conch is firm and white and is prepared in a variety of ways including conch chowder, conch stew, conch salad, popular conch fritters, and is also deep fried as cracked conch. I have tried the conrch fritters, and they are very crunchy and have a very different taste. I did enjoy them, but they aren't a food I crave. It is more of a vacation food for me.
Now for dessert the Bahamain's favorites are desserts such as coconut or pineapple tart, bread pudding or guava duff. They top off their meals with a speciality drink that called "switcha", which consist of water, fresh lemons and sugar. This is very different from the American tradition of coffee after a meal.
